MERCED COUNTY, CA
Project Description
The Arroya Avenue over Delta Canal Bridge Replacement project in Merced County near Los Banos includes the partial replacement and widening of an existing cast-in-place bridge while maintaining the adjacent weir structure required by the Henry Miller Reclamation District (HMRD). The new bridge consists of precast, prestressed concrete girders supported on reinforced concrete abutments founded on 24-inch CIDH piles and installed to span over the existing structure. Vibration and crack monitoring were implemented during construction to protect the existing weir and abutments, which remain in place and are tied to the new foundations. Additional improvements include permanent sheet piling for slope protection, roadway improvements at a 90-degree approach, and construction of a retaining/wingwall system. Coordination with HMRD for in-channel work and dewatering windows due to local water demands was critical to project success.
Services Provided
Services included but were not limited to; documentation of preconstruction conditions, weekly progress meetings and coordination, submittal management and review, RFI management, construction inspection, progress payment estimates, QA material testing oversight, and project close out including final acceptance.
